We will read A Bargain for Frances which we will discuss alongside money in math

Math

  • Review of addition and subtraction within 100

Science
We will identify the three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. We will take a look at how heat, pressure and time cause the formation of rocks. Moving forward we will learn about the roles that famous scientists have played in life.

History
This week we begin to learn about Modern Mexico. We will discuss the three cultures that make up modern Mexico. We will also discover the meaning of the colors in the flag of Mexico as well as the origin of last names in Mexican culture. Stay tuned for information regarding our end of the year Mexico celebration.

This week we will dive into the world of Winnie the Pooh

Math

  • subtracting ones with renaming
  • subtracting tens 
  • subtracting two digit numbers
Science
This week scholars will describe volcanoes and geysers as well as identify common minerals in the earth and how they are used by people.

History
We continue to read through Lewis, Clark and Me which recounts the journey of Lewis and Clark through the eye's of Lewis's dog Seaman.

Though the weather has warmed please remember that cold and flu season is still in full swing. If your child has a fever he or she will need to stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours. We are encouraging children to keep their hands clean at school. If you  wish to help in this endeavor we are accepting sanitizer and sanitizing wipes.

Science
Will continue to study the planets in our solar system this week. Students will learn that the Earth orbits the sun and that our solar systems includes the sun and the planets that orbit around it. We will learn that Pluto is classified as a dwarf planet and that there are eight planets in our solar system.

History
This week scholars will describe the early years of Sacagawea and explain how she helped the Lewis and Clark Expedition. We will review and test on our Exploring the West unit. We begin reading Lewis and Clark and Me a book from the perspective of Meriwether Lewis's dog.
